OVERALL Vitae can be a rather delicate looking beast, when wet down anyway. She's tall enough and heavy enough for her breed, sure, but just barely, so she still looks slim and fit. Her leg bones are sturdy and are perhaps the only bones in her body that are on the thick side, though her ribcage is relatively broad. Her face is gentle, with a long nose that slopes very gradually as it meets her forehead. All the contours on her face are smooth with no sharp edges. Her ears are about the right size, while the fur on them isn't quite short or long, making them look fluffy unless wet down, especially in high humidity. Her muscle is thin and lean, so she looks like she might be an easy target - but her sheer determination and will to live can prove her to be otherwise.
persona
but turn around, they've surrounded you
LIKES Being alone, stargazing, winter, honesty, stories of the past
DISLIKES Being alone (she's complex, give her a break), summer, pollen, liars, killers, thieves, happy-go-lucky creatures
STRENGTHS Deceivingly strong, lack of trust, good listener
WEAKNESSES Lack of trust, smaller stature, unpredictable
HOPES To find someone she can trust explicitly in her life; she doubts it will ever happen, though.
FEARS Anyone she doesn't know, as well as the idea her pack still hunts her.
TRAITS
LOYAL She won't tell you that she'd lay down her life for you, but trust me, she won't have to. She'll never leave your side and she'll go days without sleep to keep watch if you happen to be injured or sick. It's incredibly difficult to earn her loyalty, and it takes just a few small words to lose it for good, but it is by far worth the effort.
DISTRUSTING After being nearly killed by her own family on the command of her parents, did you really expect her to just trust you without reason? Well, if you did, you're an idiot. If you thought it was hard to earn her loyalty, it's nothing compared to her trust. She sees the world in black and white; either you're lying to her or you aren't, and she's not about to believe a word you say until you give her reason to over and over again.
UNPREDICTABLE She's constantly bottling up her emotions, but she's never been good at holding on to them. As a result, her moods are in a near-constant flux. It isn't so bad that she'll switch every few minutes, but she probably won't be the same dog from day to day. At least, until she starts to talk about her nightmares and the horrors of her past, so that she can begin to face them and accept them. She'll even out a bit more then - if only because it isn't all stuck inside her anymore.
JUDGMENTAL This goes along with not believing a word you say until you prove it is the truth. She is prone to finding ways to disbelieve anything and everything you say and reading bad intentions into a neutral action or word. If there is some way to put you as the potential bad guy, she'll find it and she's not afraid to let you know exactly how little she trusts you. She won't necessarily be snappy, but manners aren't exactly a concern to her, so don't expect her to be polite about it either.
HONEST She has come to hate lies with a passion and as such, she never, ever lies. If you ask if you look fat, and you really do, she'll tell you straight; Yes. Yes, you look really fat and you'd better start shaving off those pounds if you ever want to look less like a hippopotamus again. Her brutal honesty earns her more enemies than friends, but that's just fine by her. She may be lonely as she is now, but she'll never admit it. That is the one animal she'll lie to with ease; herself.
INSOMNIAC She has a habit of staying awake for days at a time, sleeping merely out of exhaustion. This, of course, is fueled by a paranoia she won't admit to - the idea that her pack still hunts her and that they won't rest until she's dead. This also leads to her never staying in one place long.
history
it's a showdown and nobody comes to save you now
MOTHER Arabella, ailve
FATHER Constable, alive
SIBLINGS None she is aware of
IMPORTANT FIGURES Aunts, uncles and cousins - but she has since regarded them as her nameless "family". They are all, presumably, alive.
STORY Vitae has not had the best life, though it has been better than some. To her, though, it's a haunting experience which won't leave her alone and affects her more than she'd like to admit.
She was born among a small family pack shortly before the quarantine, and she was the only surviving pup from the litter. Unfortunately for her, they blamed her for her stillborn brother's death and she would eventually pay the consequences for this. They let her grow, for a while, as they were far more concerned with escaping and surviving than with worrying about it. She was none the wiser to their ultimate plan to kill her.
She was a year old when she went on her first solo hunt, and had just caught a rabbit. She was going to pick it up and bring it back, but when she turned she was facing most of the other pack members. A few had heard the plan and, disgusted, left to run alone. As the rabbit fell from her mouth in surprise, they attacked. She managed, just barely, to get away and run, but one image stays with her; The malicious, yet familiar, sets of eyes watching through the bush, not even planning on getting their paws dirty.
So, she ran and ran, mind gone with pain and fear. Eventually, she collapsed, unable to go farther, but she had already gotten away. She was in and out of consciousness for hours, days perhaps, she's not entirely sure. Eventually, though, she stayed up and found water, some prey that had been left to the crows. This was how she lived, until she had healed enough to hunt properly.
She never trusted anyone else again, not anymore. That trust had been shattered to tiny, minuscule pieces and so far it has yet to be reformed. She has been living on her own for two years now, and is quite happy avoiding all the males after her, and the packs she runs into. She can't avoid everyone, of course, but she found she can chase them away if she tries hard enough. In a way, she's just waiting for that one canine who doesn't care about her rather rough, and often rude, behavior and sticks by her. Not that she's even realized she's waiting, of course - she's rather fond of thinking she is quite happy alone.
