OVERALL Ardent is a golden retriever with a pelt that leans more toward red and orange then it does towards gold or yellow. As far as he can tell it is a natural color, with no odd tints like some of the other mammals from his generation. His fur is thick all year round which can become somewhat of a hassle in the summer months, but since it allows him to swim when he wants to cool down he doesn't complain. His eyes are an expressive, chocolate brown color with little pin pricks of lighter colors visible in bright light. He's sturdy, but thin and the musculature he does have is hidden beneath his thick coat as would be any birthmarks or scars.

TRAITS Ardent has been alone for the majority of his life. Being only two years old he hasn't lived very long and in that span has only been included in two small, and temporary groups. Once the groups broke up or went their separate ways he went back to being on his own. He has no trouble being alone, it's easier once you've gotten used to it, but he does love being around others. He's a very energetic, playful dog and though he can find games to play by himself it's not nearly as fun as being with other dogs.
Personality-wise he's gentle but skittish, not the type to take part in violence. In fact if faced with a hostile situation he'll be more likely to bolt at the first opportunity than stand and fight. He's not a coward by any means, he's just a pacifist. Of course life is hard and no amount of running and hiding is going to protect you from having to fight. He's been in a few scrapes and somewhere under his fur the marks are probably still there, but thankfully it wasn't anything to serious. He's got an outgoing streak when it comes to meeting loners or a stranger, preferring to just go right on up and chat rather then steering clear. He knows this can be dangerous cause some animals don't want to be chatted with but he's managed alright so far, in figuring out who to approach and when.
He doesn't have a temper, it's clear to those who've gotten him angry in the past. But he's loyal to those he considers friends and even willing to fight if it means protecting someone he cares about. Mostly he just gets too excited too easily, and if you say you want to play he pretty much reverts to pup mode.

STORY Ardent is the result of two golden retrievers that managed to find each other after their owners died from the sickness. Cass and Ghost had traveled long and hard before meeting each other on a deserted track of road in the mid west, They'd been moving in opposite directions, but when they found each other they decided that sticking together would benefit the both of them. After that you can pretty much guess what happened. The pair mated and during her pregnancy they hooked up with another pair, giving them a group of four and offering more security for the pregnant Cass.
In time the pups came. The couple had been blessed with a litter of three healthy pups, two males and a female. Which they raised with little problem thanks to the helping paws of their two friends. Sage was the first born, followed by Nyx and then Ardent.
The little pack as convenient as it might have been was temporary and soon it was back to just Ghost and Cass, only now with three pups. Ardent didn't really remember this time. They spent a lot of it on the move, and some times they'd be joined by another dog or two, before splitting off on their own again. His father and mother seemed more eager to be alone then to care for the three of them, but did their duty well. When it came for one of the pups to leave neither parent voiced any objections and only sent them off with a few parting words of advice and promises to meet up again somewhere, eventually.
Though he was the youngest Ardent was the first to leave. At a year and a half he said goodbye to his siblings and his parents and struck off to find his own place in the world. He spends most of his time in areas that are vacant and open, or in forests and other places with enchanting scenery. He doesn't much like cities as something about the buildings creeps him out, so it's not often you see him even close to one if he can help it. He had an image of finding a destiny of some kind, or perhaps some special fate meant just for him. Those are the thoughts of a pup about to strike out on their first adventure though so he's since let them slide to the back of his mind. Instead he focuses on living in his own way, and doing what he wants.
